Andrew Johnson

Andrew Johnson (8th grade team - week 7)

Andrew Johnson has been pegged by many as a player of the future at Temple. The reason? He’s all arms and legs. And as an 8th-grader, the post player is already as tall or taller than many of the players on the varsity team.

If he continues to improve as he has this season, the future may come sooner than later for Johnson.

The skinny Johnson contributed six points in Temple’s lone game this week – a loss at Grace – to earn Player of the Week honors.

“Andrew played very well against Grace,” Temple middle school coach Dave Wiedenbenner said. “He has really been working on his post game and wanting to improve, and tonight it really showed.”

Philip Edens

Philip Edens (7th grade team - week 7)

Temple coach Dave Wiedenbenner may or may not give a most improved player award at the end of this season.

If he does, Philip Edens wouldn’t be a bad choice.

Although not a big scorer, Edens is a team player and improved each week. So much so that Wiedenbenner named him Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season.

“Philip didn’t score this week, but he has improved the most,” Wiedenbenner said. “He did everything that I asked him to do. He made smart decisions in his passing and he had zero turnovers against Grace’s press. I am very proud of the way Philip has progressed. He did an excellent job this week.”
