Jeremy Sexton (week 12)
If you can’t guess this week’s Player of the Week, you haven’t been paying very close attention to Temple basketball.
Jeremy Sexton continued his masterful junior season, averaging 25.7 points per game in leading the Crusaders to three straight wins – including a District 5-A championship.
Sexton, the team’s leading scorer, pumped in 23 points in a 72-44 regular-season ending win at David Brainerd. He followed that with a 23-point performance in a 52-44 victory over 21st Century in the opening round of the district tournament. He saved his best for last, pouring in a career-high 31 points in a memorable 57-54 victory over Grace that gave the Crusaders the district championship.
“He just took over,” Temple coach Caleb Marcum said.
Sexton, already a member of Temple’s 1,000-point club, is averaging 23.4 points per game this season. He has scored in double digits in all 28 games while leading the Crusaders to a 19-9 record.
Sexton’s previous career-high of 28 points came against Cleveland earlier this season.
He was named the region MVP and also garnered District 5-A tournament MVP.
“Jeremy certainly deserves all the awards that come his way,” Marcum said.
