The couple has two children, Justin, 13, who is the starting quarterback on the middle school team, and Lauren, 17, who is captain of the varsity cheerleading squad.
The Johnston’s are members at Temple Baptist.
Johnston is currently working toward a degree at Chattanooga State and intends to transfer to Tennessee-Chattanooga upon completion.
He played football and baseball at East Ridge High School.
“I really enjoy coaching here at Temple,” Johnston said. “The kids are great, the parents are great, and it’s a great school. It’s an all-around good atmosphere.”
John Giles is in his second year as Temple’s assistant middle school football coach. He is the defensive coordinator.
A Sandersville, Ga. native, the 40-year old Giles spent the majority of his life in Georgia before moving to Chattanooga along with his family two years ago. An electrician, he is an employee of Tennessee Temple University.

I enjoy reaching out to them and getting to know them. Hopefully, I can have a positive influence on their lives. I know they’ve truly added to mine.”
