Class A Tennessee Temple High School had two girls sign Division I letters of intent during this early signing period.
While multisport teammate Danielle Rector will play basketball for Mississippi State, Amanda Jordan signed to play softball for Samford University. Jordan, a 6-foot-tall all-region basketball player last winter, plays shortstop and catcher for Temple and for the Tennessee Edge summer team, with whom she’s won an NSA national championship.

She was homeschooled until coming to Temple as a junior.
Houston and Tulsa were early bidders for her softball skills, and some SEC schools also talked to her, according to her dad and coach, Chris Jordan. But Amanda said her final decision was between Samford in Birmingham and Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville. She played years ago for a key member of each of those coaching staffs.
"At first I got offers from bigger schools that were really far away, but then they started coming from closer to home," she said.
"The college coaches like her athletic build and tremendous range at shortstop," Coach Jordan said, "and she has a very, very strong arm, which helps her at both positions. And she’s been working on her speed. She led our summer team in stolen bases, and she’s a good bunter who also hits with power."
