Josh Smith ( Tenn. Temple)(6'2, 240) has made a decision. The defensive player of the year in region 3, 1A and All-State MLB will be signing to play football at Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN. Here's what Josh had to say.
What made you choose Cumberland University?
I really liked the coaching staff and the campus. The coaches really went out of their way to make me feel like they wanted me to be a part of the football program. I also enjoyed the small school atmosphere and the opportunity to play right away. Plus, Kevin Smithson transfered to CU from Charleston Southern to play QB for the Bulldogs and we are good friends. We were teammates at Temple my Sophomore and Junior year. It will be great to be on the same team and play football with him again.
Another reason I chose Cumberland University over schools like Univ. of Tennessee at Chattanooga was that they made me an offer I couldn't pass up. They also said I would more than likely be able to play right away. I am looking forward to spending the next four years playing football for Coach Alexander and the Bulldog program.
What other schools, besides UTC were you looking at?
Samford, Wofford, Appalachian State, Princeton, and East Carolina,.
What role did your parents play in the recruiting process?
They basically visited the schools with me and talked with the coaches. They didn't put any pressure on me to choose any particular program over another. They told me the final choice was mine and that they would both stand behind me and support my decision.
Smith more than likely will be playing MLB at Cumberland. He turned down an offer to play FB at UT-Chattanooga and chose instead to play for the Bulldogs of Cumberland. |
